Sasha Bjerken Cohen (b. 2003, New York City) is an artist concerned with the phenomena of corporeality. He earned a B.A. from Bennington College in dance, sculpture, and writing.
As an embodied artist, Sasha senses how spaces impact his sensory experience. He translates these impressions which, through various processes, become indicators for the current arbitrary nature of expression. These indicators coordinate with each other in myriad dynamics.
His practice acts as a grounds for developing systems of organization. The emergent systems attend to the flux of complexities within the body; emotion; and perception.
Improvisation and gesture, figuration-layered-palimpsest, nurture the personality of his mark making. Often, a score emerges.
Currently he is assisting and sharing studios with sculptors Mia Westerlund Roosen and Alice Adams in upstate, NY .
